Ugandan Government Honours Esther Madudu

Esther Madudu, the face of the Amref Health Africa’s Stand Up for African Mothers Campaign has been recognised by the Ugandan Ministry of Health for her exemplary performance and commitment to work as a midwife.

The Minister for Health, Dr Elioda Tumwesigye, handed over the Outstanding Achievement Award 2013/2014 to Esther Madudu amidst cheers from participants at the closing ceremony of the Ministry of Health’s 20th Joint Review Mission and 10th National Health Assembly.

Esther recieves award from the Minister of Health

This is among the most prestigious awards for health worker in Uganda with a rigorous selection process. Officials from the Office of the President's department for external health care quality assurance visited her at her workplace several times without her prior knowledge before they made their decision.

The award affirms Esther's role as the face of the SU4AM campaign.

During the meeting, the Annual Health Sector Performance Report and the Mid-Term Review report of the Health Sector Strategic and Investment Plan were presented.

The Minister thanked the central, local governments and development partners for working closely together leading to improvement on the reported indicators. The meetings was attended by officials from the Ministry of Health, other government ministries, departments and agencies, development partners, civil society, the private sector, representatives from all districts in Uganda and members of parliament.
