Equitable Access

Bringing Health Services to Every Community

In 2023, we made remarkable strides in bringing Primary Health Care closer to the people who need it most. Through collaborative efforts, we advocated and secured KES 3 billion from the national government to support Community Health Promoters (CHPs), enabling us to train them, improve prevention outcomes, and monitor their performance. Our aspiration is to ensure that everyone, no matter where they live, has access to essential health services.

We partnered with the Ministry of Health to focus on preventive and promotive health services, establishing and operationalising 69 Primary Care Networks (PCNs) in 13 counties. These networks provide essential health services at the community level, ensuring that families receive the care they need without having to travel long distances.

To further strengthen our service delivery, we supported the deployment of the PCN observatory and the Electronic Health Information System (eCHIS) in 18 counties to help us track health data and improve service delivery. We also trained CHPs on the use of CHP kits to better serve their communities.

Our efforts were recognised by the President on Mashujaa Day for expanding quality primary healthcare through PCNs, inspiring us to continue strengthening these networks for sustainable health outcomes.

We also launched a Primary Health Care (PHC) webinar series to promote continuous learning and collaboration among practitioners and policymakers. These webinars advance knowledge and drive the evolution of PHC and Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Kenya and beyond, fostering innovative solutions and better health policies.

At the core of our work is the belief that everyone deserves access to quality health care. We collaborate with community groups, volunteers, healthcare workers, and the Ministry of Health to make this a reality. Through focusing on prevention, health education, and technology, we are building healthier communities. We understand the challenges remote communities face, therefore our commitment to improving health services to vulnerable communities remains strong.

In 2023, we laid a solid foundation for primary health care in Kenya through funding, partnerships, and innovation. We will continue to advocate, collaborate, and innovate to bring health services to every community, making a lasting impact on the lives of countless families
