Strengthening Health Systems for Quality Care

In 2024, we made notable progress in strengthening health systems to deliver quality primary healthcare services. A key focus was understanding and improving client satisfaction. We conducted client exit interviews across 105 PCNs to gather feedback on service quality at primary healthcare facilities and community health units. These insights are critical for refining service delivery.

We supported the development of occupational standards for CHPs and Community Health Officers, to standardize and improve high-quality training for health personnel. The revised curriculum for CHPs is designed to build a capable workforce that can address the diverse needs of the communities they serve.

In collaboration with the Council of Governors, we addressed critical challenges faced by healthcare workers by presenting a concept paper to the Kenya Health Human Resource Advisory Council (KHHRAC). This demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that health workers are well-equipped with the necessary resources and training to perform their roles effectively.

To improve disease diagnosis, we supported the Ministry of Health in developing and implementing an E-learning platform for Biosafety training for laboratory personnel. We also contributed to the creation of a Laboratory Continuous Quality Improvement Guideline (LCQI) and facilitated post-market surveillance for In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) testing, ensuring high standards in diagnostics and patient safety.

We are also developing an operational manual for an integration model that is under discussion for adoption by the Ministry of Health and other partners for application in PHC. This model purposes to streamline processes and improve healthcare service efficiency, laying a strong foundation for accessible, high-quality care for all. We will continue to build on these successes, ensuring that our health systems are equipped to meet the needs of every community we serve.
