Kesia Benard is among the TAKA NI MALI Project beneficiary. Kesia is working at Kilawalani ward, iIlala District as the Health Environment Officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She had a testimony to share with us when we visited her during the project implementation at Ilala municipality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn the previous years before the TNM project was introduced at our area, most of people used to throw wastes negligently, it was very tedious seeing a lot of waste around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the health and environment expert I tried my best to raise awareness about the impact of living in an area which is not clean and possible diseases that can be caused by such an environment but I couldn\u2019t reach every citizen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Awareness raising to the community needs time, fund and other resources as the available human power and fund was not enough. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since the waste management project started to be implemented at our locale people have been enlightened and they have started to see the importance of waste management which can also be an opportunity for generating income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The TNM project conducted a number of awareness and sensitization meetings while supporting the community through TNM groups \u201d Kesia testified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Taka Ni Mali project demonstrated how community driven efforts can create lasting impact. It reduced cholera cases by 80% from 2017 to 2019 and empowered 145<\/strong> women and youth, increasing employment by 60%.<\/strong> Income for these groups grew by 198%,<\/strong> and over 60,000<\/strong> people were directly reached through awareness campaigns. The project also strengthened partnerships between local authorities and waste entrepreneurs.
