\u201cOne of the beneficiaries of the Waste Management (Taka Ni Mali) Project is the Kipawa\u2019s widows group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These women have lost their husbands for many years back as a result some of them took full responsibility to take care of their families despite the financial challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the major issue mentioned by most of the widows was on the difficult encounters in paying their children school fees. Since TAKA NI MALI project was introduced at the Kipawa area. a number of widows have been registered, and trained on waste management skills and municipal bylaws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
TAKA NI MALI Project has benefited a good number of women because they are now engaged with various waste management related activities from morning to evening, they are able to generate income to sustain their daily life and pay for their children school fees as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As of now, the project has provided one mixing machine, one machine for charcoal making , one generator and two three-wheel motorcycles which help them to swiftly run all activities at the workshop<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the district level , we are grateful to this project as it has availed great opportunity to the community. We will continue to support the group to grow and we have currently supported them to access a loan of Three (3) Million Tanzanian Shillings to expand their business\u201d, concluded Thecla John Ngambira, a Community Development Officer at Kipawa Ward, Ilala District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Taka Ni Mali project demonstrated how community driven efforts can create lasting impact. It reduced cholera cases by 80% from 2017 to 2019 and empowered 145<\/strong> women and youth, increasing employment by 60%.<\/strong> Income for these groups grew by 198%,<\/strong> and over 60,000<\/strong> people were directly reached through awareness campaigns. The project also strengthened partnerships between local authorities and waste entrepreneurs.
