Steward Mfekewe Mkumbwa, one of the 300 trained community health workers (CHWs) in Isongole village, Isongole ward says, \u201cSince the project began, we have been visiting households and identifying children without vaccinations, issuing them referrals, and successfully bringing them to the health centres for vaccination,\u201d asserts.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reflecting on the transformative impact of the initiative facilitated by Amref through UNICEF,\u00a0Mkumbwa highlights the substantial progress made in just two months. Previously, the community faced challenges in locating unvaccinated children due to parental inertia and a lack of proactive outreach efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNow, with structured visits and targeted referrals, we ensure children receive necessary vaccinations,\u201d Mkumbwa explains, emphasizing the feedback loop established with healthcare providers to verify immunization status and reduce the number of unvaccinated children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, Mkumbwa underscores the pivotal role of local government leaders in promoting vaccination awareness. \u201cThrough our engagement, leaders now actively support us in communicating with mothers about the importance of vaccinations,\u201d he states, applauding the newfound collaboration among CHWs, community leaders, and health center staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
