We are glad to announce that, on 4th April 2022, the Annual General Meeting of Amref Health Africa in Tanzania, officially endorsed the appointment of Mr. Anthony Chamungwana as the new Chairman for the Board of Directors of Amref Health Africa in Tanzania. <\/strong>Mr. Chamungwana (pictured), is taking over from Dr Eric van Praag who ably accomplished his tenure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Chamungwana brings on board a wealth of experience from the corporate sector. Currently, Mr. Chamungwana is the Chief<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Executive Officer of Intercapital Limited Tanzania, a multi-disciplinary Advisory and Investment firm covering Africa region with diversified interest and investment in other key economic sectors; Formerly worked as the Manager, Treasury at National Microfinance Bank; Director of Treasury for CRDB Bank PLC; Group Assistant Treasurer at Tanzania Development Finance Company Ltd; and Investment Manager for Merrill Lynch in the USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is a Member of the Institute of Directors, Kenya; Tanzania Institute of Bankers, Global Association of Risk Professionals, African Venture Capital Association; Energy Council and Climate Council<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Chamungwana is a former Board Chair for World Vision Tanzania, Board Member for HABITAT for Humanity Tanzania and a Board of Trustee for Simsolar Inc. (USA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Chamungwana\u2019s expertise spans in the areas of banking, finance, governance and oversight, risk management, fund mobilization and capital raising, strategy formulation and implementation and capacity building. One of Mr. Chamungwana\u2019s tasks will be to guide the Board in its Governance role, as the Organization continues to develop and grow in a rapidly changing development sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABOUT AMREF HEALTH AFRICA TANZANIA<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

With the focus to reach and works with the most vulnerable African communities to achieve lasting health change, Amref Health Africa has been active in Tanzania since 1957 and in 1987 the country office was established in Dar es Salaam. Since then, Amref Health Africa in Tanzania has been among the major supporters of the Government of Tanzania\u2019s health care initiatives particularly the Ministry of Health, and President Office Region Authority and Local Government. Amref has supported the development of a number of national health policies, strategies, and guidelines for equitable health service delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, Amref Health Africa in Tanzania implements over 15 active projects across different regions in Tanzania. Amref\u2019s projects are categorized into four main thematic areas: Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH); Disease Control and Prevention (DCP) program which comprises of HIV and AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB), Laboratory Services, Obstetric Fistula, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Capacity Building Program. Amref Health Africa\u2019s approach has mainly been community-based services reaching needy communities whereby the majority are women (54.0%) and children (37.5%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amref Health Africa in Tanzania\u2019s projects responds to national health priorities and sustainable development goals (SDGs) in addressing the needs of needy communities mostly women and children. We work to increase the effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of health services by strengthening health systems, improving access to services, advocating stronger community health systems, and influencing health policies. With the 2018-2022 strategy, Amref Health Africa in Tanzania remains a strong supporter of the Universal Health Coverage Agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
