Abenet Berhanu is the Country Director at Amref Health Africa in Uganda since September 2012. Prior to this, Abenet served as Chief of Party, Deputy chief of party, and Regional Coordinator at PATH, Abt Associates, and Pathfinder International. In his long years of service, he has demonstrated capabilities in policy, advocacy, and program leadership to advance a rights based approach to health and education, gender equality, and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Over the years, Abenet has demonstrated strong dedication to improve the lives of the underserved communities; particularly women, children, and young people. He has also held senior positions with vast experience in leading diverse and multi-disciplinary teams in large and complex programs; including dealing with high level government officials, donors, bilateral and multilateral organizations. He has proven competencies to take charge of the change management processes to foster employees’ productivity, compliance, and operational efficiencies and possesses high value for teamwork, knowledge sharing, goal achievements, and devotes time to train and coach young employees to maximise their full potential. Additionally, Abenet has over 25 years of leadership, health systems strengthening, and grant management experience in international non-governmental and private for profit organizations. His education and qualification includes: Diploma in Comprehensive Nursing, Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Social Administration from Addis Ababa University, MPH from Royal Tropical Institution in the Netherlands, and an MBA from University of Roehampton in the United Kingdom.
