Frederieke Quispel, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Uganda, and Ms. Hildigunnur Engilbertsd\u00f3ttir, Head of Mission at the Embassy of Iceland, officials from the Ministry of Water and Environment, KIS, Amref Country Manager and Heroes Program Manager lead the ground breaking of the new water system in Mulabana.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Kalangala District recently welcomed a high-level delegation comprising H.E. Frederieke Quispel, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Uganda, and Ms. Hildigunnur Engilbertsd\u00f3ttir, Head of Mission at the Embassy of Iceland, for a field visit under the Heroes for Gender Transformative Action<\/em> programme. This flagship initiative, led by Amref Health Africa in Uganda in partnership with MIFUMI and Cordaid, is funded by the Netherlands Embassy and implemented in close collaboration with local governments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit marked a significant step in strengthening global partnerships that promote inclusive health systems and gender equality. Key highlights included the unveiling of impression graphics for a mini-piped water system designed to serve two schools, a health facility, and surrounding communities\u2014addressing longstanding gaps in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in Kalangala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is more than a project; it\u2019s a shared commitment to justice and dignity for all. When governments and civil society work together, we deliver real impact,\u201d said H.E. Frederieke Quispel. Ms. Engilbertsd\u00f3ttir added, \u201cInvesting in the well-being of women and girls creates stronger communities and a better future for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegation also unveiled a health message board providing essential information on HPV prevention, menstrual hygiene, and debunking menstruation myths\u2014aimed at empowering both girls and boys through knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
