In Iganga, Bugiri, Kalangala  Namayingo Mbale, Budaka, Mayuge , Kween and Bukwo, the Heroes for Gender Transformative Action programme has strengthened community protection structures, supported survivor networks, and improved access to youth-friendly SRHR services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through dialogue sessions, economic empowerment groups, and health systems strengthening, the programme addresses both prevention and response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a field visit to a skilling center in Kalangala, the Country Manager Amref Health Africa in Uganda,  Dr. Patrick Kagurusi explains; \u201cWhen women have safe reporting pathways, access to contraception, and financial independence, they are less vulnerable to abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Health facilities across the nine burdened districts have been equipped to provide integrated services, including family planning, clinical management of rape, and psychosocial support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heroes consortium partner from MIFUMI, Ms. Akello Immaculate shares:

The program also works with district leaders to institutionalize SGBV response mechanisms within local government systems, ensuring sustainability beyond the project cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the world marks International Women\u2019s Day 2026, these women represent what investing in social justice looks like in practice: stronger systems, informed communities, empowered girls, and accountable leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Domestic Violence Free Uganda is not just a vision. It is being built, district by district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
