Amref Health Africa in Uganda,\u00a0 donated assorted medical items and equipment worth sh447m, to the COVID-19 national task force response fund.<\/p>\n

The items, including sanitisers, masks, overalls, Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and waste management kits, among others, were handed over to the Minister of Health, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, at the Ministry\u2019s headquarters in Kampala.<\/p>\n

Dr Patrick Kagurusi, the Head of Programmes at Amref Health Africa-Uganda, said they have also supported over 2,000 community health workers\/ village health teams that are sensitising households on how to avoid contracting COVID-19.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmref is committed to supporting the Ministry of Health in COVID-19 response, but also strengthening the health system in Uganda,\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n

Amref Health Africa has consistently supported ministries of health and the World Health Organisation during outbreak interventions, including facilitating the provision of critical health care to remote communities across Africa as evidenced by participation, during the roll out of control measures, for the Ebola outbreaks in Uganda 2000 and 2012.<\/p>\n

Dr.\u00a0 Jane Ruth Aceng commended Amref\u2019s efforts in ensuring that village health teams are empowered with information and that they are moving through the villages teaching people how to avoid contracting COVID-19.<\/p>\n

During the hand over event she called\u00a0 upon Ugandans to remain vigilant as the East African Community (EAC) works out a permanent solution to ensuring that only truck drivers who test negative are allowed to carry cargo within the EAC community.<\/p>\n

She said discussions are going on and, hopefully, by the end of this week they will have concluded the talks, and free trade can continue in a safe way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
