Celebrating the Future: Highlights from Amref International University’s Inspiring 5th Graduation Ceremony
Monday, 29 July, 2024
On July 19th, we celebrated our 5th graduation ceremony and the first ever at the new campus in Northlands.
The theme for this year’s ceremony, “Embracing Diversity and Disruptive Technology for Sustainable Pan-African Health Workforce Training,” set the stage for an event that was both thought-provoking and motivating. As we sat among proud families and friends, the excitement for the future of healthcare in Africa was unmistakable.
The atmosphere was electric as our graduates, resplendent in their academic regalia, processed into the ceremony. Each step they took represented years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. These remarkable individuals are now ready to revolutionize healthcare across the continent.
We were deeply honored to have Hon. Yolanda A. Deng, Minister of Health from South Sudan, as our chief guest. Her heartfelt speech emphasized the importance of investing in our health workforce and highlighted how our graduates will be pivotal in driving change. Her words were both moving and motivational, perfectly capturing the spirit of the day.
The ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Ms. Muthoni Kuria, Board Chair of Amref University, Dr. Githinji Gitahi, Group CEO of Amref Health Africa, Mary Muthoni Muriuki, CBS, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards in the Ministry of Health Kenya, Prof. Joachim Osur, Vice Chancellor of AMIU, and Prof. Kiama Gitahi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi. Their presence underscored the significance of this milestone event.
As each graduate received their diploma, the pride and joy on their faces were evident. Their relentless pursuit of excellence in various disciplines—nursing, reproductive health, community and public health, physiotherapy, and rehabilitative medicine—was truly inspiring. A standout moment was a graduate’s powerful story of overcoming numerous challenges to achieve her dream, resonating deeply with everyone present and highlighting the transformative power of education.
These graduates are not just healthcare professionals; they are innovators, leaders, and change-makers. Equipped to embrace diversity and disruptive technology, they are poised to ensure a healthier and more sustainable future for all.
Let us all take a moment to celebrate this incredible achievement and continue to support our mission of providing high-quality training and improving healthcare across Africa.
Congratulations once again to the AMIU Class of 2024—your hard work is paving the way for a brighter future!
