Amref Health Africa is a non-governmental organisation headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya and founded in 1957. Our vision is lasting health change in Africa. We began partnering with communities to improve health in Malawi in 2012.

Our Projects

eLearning for Midwives

Timeline: 2014 to 2019

Funder: Bread for the World Germany

Goal: Improve the availability and quality of essential health care for women and children through eLearning to upgrade the skills of midwives. Training for 90 nurse midwives, 10 tutors, 10 mentors in two health training institutes. Five communities will be served by the trained nurse midwives.

Improving high quality, equitable maternal health services in Malawi

Timeline: 2015 to 2020
Funder: International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada
Goal: Generate research on the Government of Malawi’s initiative to improve the quality of maternal health care; the research aims to identify gaps between the initiative and how it is working on the ground

Canada-Africa Initiative to Address Maternal, Newborn and Child Mortality

Timeline: 2016 to 2019

Funder: Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada

Goal: Improve health care services for women and children

Trachoma Elimination

Timeline: 2015 to 2019

Funder:  Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Fund

Goal:  To support the Ministry of Health in Malawi’s goal to eliminate blinding trachoma by 2018

Yes I Do (YID) Alliance: Eliminating Child Marriages and Harmful Cultural Practices

Goal: Adolescent girls and boys enjoy their sexual and reproductive rights and achieve thir full potential, free from all forms of Child Marriage and teenage pregnancy.
