Amref Health Africa Malawi commissioned an evaluation of Malawi LEAP Interventions: An Internal Reflection. The LEAP intervention was implemented for three years in Ntchisi and Mangochi districts. The intervention was aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #3: ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages. Amref Health Africa Malawi aimed to use the LEAP platform to build the capacity of community health volunteers (CHVs) on the three childhood illnesses: malaria, diarrhoea and pneumonia, thereby preventing deaths of new-borns and children under 5 years of age. Operation research conducted at the end of the three years revealed the poor performance of the intervention. Amref Malawi sought to explore what might have influenced the result and delve into the lessons that can be learnt to inform future plans on the use of the innovation.
