Analysis of Systemic Equity and Gender Issues Affecting Product Introduction and Access to COVID-19 Tools in the East African Countries

Analysis of infections rates by gender for Uganda, South Sudan and Kenya show that males are disproportionately infected by the COVID-19 virus compared to their female counterparts. Infections rates among men remained higher than those of women across all age groups. In line with the gender differences in COVID-19 burden there was higher mortality among males compared to females in Kenya and Uganda. Mortality data disaggregated by gender were not accessible for Burundi and South Sudan.
