Persistently high TB prevalence in Nairobi County neighbourhoods, 2015-2022

A 2022 re-survey of nine Nairobi County neighborhoods revealed a persistently high prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB), with a weighted estimate of 806 per 100,000 people—showing no significant decline since 2015. Among 6,369 participants, 1,582 submitted sputum samples, and 42 tested positive for TB. Men and individuals aged 45–54 years continued to show the highest prevalence, with men reaching 1,301 per 100,000.The results contrast with trends in other serial surveys that reported declining TB rates, highlighting the need for intensified case-finding and health-seeking behavior interventions in Nairobi.
