Human Resources For Health (Health Training)

Goal: To contribute to the strengthening and rehabilitation of the health system of South Sudan in order to promote the continuous improvement of health and quality of life of the local population.

 

Targeted Beneficiaries: South Sudanese nationals with basic secondary qualification (50 pre-service clinical officer students); 1Health training school.

 

Strategy: Provision of training resources and in-service training

 

Implementation Areas: Maridi Health Science Institute (MHSI), Maridi County

 

Key achievements: Clinical officer students- 45 (36M; 9F), about to complete training in 2018; Sixteen (16) members of staff are employed to implement activities of the project; Two clinical instructors trained on teaching methodology.

Goal: To bridge the gap between Boys and Girls in Health Institutions, and increase the proposition of Women Health workers to ensure equality among Health cadres in the Republic of South Sudan.

 

Expected Outcome: Empower girl child education and create gender equity in the health sector who have a good science education background to become nurses, clinical officers and midwives; to increase the percentage of women from 25% to 50% inclusion in the socio-economic aspects of the nation, hence gender balance; to improve health and maternity care in the local community to international standards; and demonstrate to entire nation that women can equally become better health personnel.

 

Targeted Beneficiaries: Maridi Girls Secondary School; 100 bright students from poor families; teachers.

 

Strategy:  Provision of secondary science training courses and scientific training resources;

 

Implementation Area: Maridi Girls Secondary School, Maridi County

 

Collaborating partners:  SMoE; SMoH, CHD, CED; GRSS.

 

Key achievements: 55 students qualified in senior four; total of 200 students from poor family enrolled; Construction of a Science laboratory to national standard of secondary school laboratories.

Goal: To contribute to the improvement of the health of mothers and children, through strengthening of the national health care system.

 

Expected Outcome: To educate 197 registered midwives over the years. To enhance capacity of Maridi NHTIs to enable them to provide quality education to midwives.

 

Targeted Beneficiaries: Maridi Health Science Institute, 197 South Sudanese nationals with basic secondary education throughout the period.

Implementation Area: Maridi Health Sciences Institute, Maridi County

 

Collaborating partner:  National Ministry of Health

 

Key achievements: midwifery students undertaking training 61 (36 M; 25F) in 2018; Sixteen (16) members of staff are employed to implement activities of the project

Goal: The overall goal of SSNAMA is to raise the profile of nurses and midwives in South Sudan and strengthen the provision of nursing and midwifery services in the new republic.

 

Targeted Beneficiaries:  Nurses and Midwives in South Sudan

 

Strategy: Advocacy events and activities, strengthening and capacity building the leadership of the association, having a functional office with fully employed staffs, strengthening membership

 

Implementation Areas: 10 Former States of South Sudan

 

Key achievements: Advocacy workshop attended by 30 (7 males and 23 females )nurses and midwives; SSNAMA hosted 2nd national scientific conference on Nursing and Midwifery and 800 members attended; 4 SSNAMA board members attended ICM and ICN congress in Toronto; HR/Finance /Procurement guidelines developed for SSNAMA;

Goal: To strengthen team work and collaboration practices among maternal, child health and administration staff in selected 14 health facilities in South Sudan

 

Targeted Beneficiaries: Health facility managers, midwives, nurses, obstetricians and other consultants, medical officers, clinical officers, auxiliary staff, pharmacists, and other mid-level cadres in maternity care settings; 25 strategic level  managers  to be selected  from  the national (MOH)  and state  levels

 

Strategy: Initiation of team building activities in the selected 14 health facilities

 

Implementation Areas: Juba teaching hospital, Rumbek state hospital, Kiir Mayardit hospital, Maridi, Aweil, Malualkon and  Yambio  state  hospitals, St.Marys’ Help hospital, Torit, Kuajok, Nimule, Kapoeta and Yei

 

Key achievements: MNCH Skills Gap Analysis conducted for 14 HFs; 160 HWs trained on LMTG in 14 HFs

Goal: Crisis affected populations, particularly women and adolescent girls, have increased access to information and services for maternal health, family planning, gender-based violence and HIV prevention in emergency and fragile contexts

 

Target beneficiaries: Adolescents and Youths

 

Strategy: Crisis affected populations, particularly women and adolescent girls, have increased access to information and services for maternal health, family planning, gender-based violence and HIV prevention in emergency and fragile contexts

 

Implementation areas: Maridi, Yambio, Ibba and Juba

 

Key achievements:  Establishment of AYFS in Maridi, Juba and Yambio; Rehabilitation of GBV centre in Yambio; Support to over 06 Boma Health Workers; Training of over 30 Peer Educators.
