Empowered Through Awareness and Protection

From Mfenesini, Zanzibar, Aziza Juma is an expectant mother who once
knew very little about vaccines during pregnancy. Like many women in
her community, she had heard of vaccinations but wasn’t sure when or
why they were important. That changed the day a community health care
worker visited her home.

“She came door to door and explained everything about the Tetanus
vaccine,” Aziza recalls warmly. “She told me how it protects both the
mother and the baby. That day, I decided to take the vaccine and I’m
so grateful I did.”

Aziza has since completed all her Tetanus (TT) doses and proudly shares
her positive experience with other pregnant women. “I’ve received all
my TT vaccines, and I’ve had no problems at all,” she says. “They are
safe and they protect us. I’m happy that I’ve done the right thing for
myself and for my baby.”

Her story reflects the growing awareness and confidence that the SLL
Project under Mastercard foundation has inspired among expectant
mothers in Zanzibar empowering them with knowledge, trust, and
protection through vaccination with the use of CHWs.

Thanks to the support of the Mastercard Foundation, working through the
SLL Project, more women like Aziza are are now better informed and
protected through life-saving vaccines.
