Reaching Health at Her Doorstep

From Mfenesini, Zanzibar, Asha Abdalla never imagined that quality
health care could come right to her doorstep. But through the SLL Project’s
community mobile clinic outreach services, she discovered the true
meaning of accessible health care.

“I have really benefited from the outreach services,” Asha says with
gratitude. “Community health workers and health care providers came
directly to our neighborhood, bringing services closer to us.”

During one of these visits, Asha learned that she was living with a
non-communicable disease (NCD) something she would not have
known without the outreach screening. “Through this project, I
discovered I have an NCD, and I was taught how to take care of
myself,” she explains. “Now I monitor my health regularly and feel
much better.”

The services came at no cost, something Asha deeply appreciates.
“This door-to-door program made everything easier,” she adds. “I
didn’t have to go to the hospital I was screened right at home for blood
pressure and sugar levels. Today, I’m doing well.”

Asha now uses her story to encourage others in her community to take
advantage of these services. “I always tell my friends to visit health
facilities and check their health status. It’s important to know, so we can
take care of ourselves early.”

Her journey is a reminder of how bringing health care closer to people
transforms lives especially for women and families who might otherwise
miss out. Through the generous support of the Mastercard Foundation
under the SLL Project, communities like Mfenesini are now accessing
essential health services right at their doorsteps improving early
detection, treatment, and overall well-being.
