Arkhlia Rashid — Protecting Her Future Through the HPV Vaccine
Arkhlia Rashid, a Class Four pupil at Mfenesini Primary School in
Zanzibar, received the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine through a
school-based outreach supported by the SLL Project under the
Mastercard Foundation.

She learned that the HPV vaccine helps protect girls from infections that
can lead to cervical cancer (saratani ya shingo ya kizazi) later in life.
“I received the HPV vaccine at school and told my parents that I had
been vaccinated,” Arkhlia said. “I explained how the vaccine protects
us from cervical cancer and other diseases, and they understood and
supported me.”
After her vaccination, Arkhlia encouraged her classmates to take part as
well. “I urged my fellow students to get vaccinated so they could
protect themselves,” she added.
