The Africa Health Collaborative (AHC) is a multi-year partnership working to strengthen primary health care systems across Africa through health workforce development, education, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The Health Collaborative brings together the Mastercard Foundation, Amref Health Africa, Addis Ababa University, African Leadership University, African Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Ashesi University, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Moi University, the University of Cape Town, and the University of Toronto. This report presents findings from the AHC baseline needs assessment conducted in Kenya, Senegal, and Zambia. Focusing on three pillars, Health Employment, Health Entrepreneurship, and Health Ecosystem, the study examines barriers and opportunities shaping youth engagement in the health workforce. The findings highlight gaps in practical training, mentorship, financing, and policy support, while also revealing strong youth interest in health innovation. With targeted investments in skills development, entrepreneurship support, and enabling policies, young people can play a key role in strengthening primary health care systems and expanding employment opportunities across Africa.
