Amref Health Africa and the Advocacy Accelerator are pleased to announce a new initiative to increase capacity and support for youth to advocate for policy changes to advance gender equality and sexual and reproductive health and rights in Kenya. Amref partners with Nakuru Hospice for a free Cancer Screening in Nakuru County
Hundreds of Nakuru County residents last week benefited from a free cancer screening exercise organised by Nakuru Hospice in partnership with the County Government of Nakuru, Amref Health Africa in Kenya and Novo Nordisk.
The five-day screening which started on October 16 under the theme: "Screening and early detection saves a generation”, was graced by Her Excellency the county’s First Lady Elizabeth Kinyanjui.

Amref Health Africa Partners with WHO-AFRO to Train Malaria Microscopists
The recent outbreak of malaria in more than five counties in Kenya has brought to light the reality that a great deal needs to be done to improve the quality of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of this deadly disease.
According to the Kenya Malaria Indicator Survey 2015, malaria accounts for about 18% of outpatient consultations and 10% of hospital admissions and therefore remains a major public health problem in this country.

$181 Million in Activities to Help Prevent Maternal and Child Deaths
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) officially launched a suite of four activities to address preventable maternal and child deaths in Ethiopia.
These “Transform” activities will support the Government of Ethiopia’s overall efforts to prevent child and maternal deaths. USAID is investing approximately $181 million (USD) in these activities through 2022.
The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) is also providing support.

Amref Health Africa in Kenya in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and other partners is taking part in the rapid response CatchUp campaign to mitigate effects of the ongoing countrywide industrial action by nurses.

Head of Operations of Amref UK visits Nyeri County
The Head of Operations of Amref Health Africa in the UK, Steve Hindle, traveled to Nyeri County, Kenya, to interact on a one-on-one basis with beneficiaries of the Management and Control of NCDs (Diabetes and Childhood Asthma) in Kenya project, under Amref’s Institute of Capacity Development.
The GSK-funded project, in partnership with the Nyeri County Government has trained frontline health care workers on proper management of Diabetes and Asthma in the county. Nyeri County is among the top counties in the country with heavy disease burden for both Diabetes and Asthma.
