Lessons from the deployment and management of public handwashing stations in esponse to the COVID-19 pandemic in Kenya: A cross-sectional, observational study
During the COVID-19 pandemic in Kenya, 5,311 handwashing stations were distributed by the National Business Compact Coalition (NBCC) to help combat the virus. This study evaluated 316 of these stations across five counties, assessing functionality, usability, and accessibility. Despite initial success, only 61% of stations remained functional 6–8 months post-distribution, often due to relocation by caretakers. Levels of handwashing and vaccine uptake in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania to prevent and control COVID-19: A systematic review and meta-analysis
This systematic review and meta-analysis investigated COVID-19 vaccine uptake and handwashing practices in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania as preventive measures against the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Drawing from 17 studies involving 18,305 participants and 622 vaccination sites, the analysis found high levels of handwashing (88%) and vaccine acceptance (67%), with relatively low vaccine hesitancy (31%). The findings highlight the need for targeted public health strategies to enhance awareness and ensure effective adoption of both hand hygiene and vaccination to control COVID-19 in the region. Undernutrition of orphans and vulnerable children: A comparison of cash transfer beneficiaries and non beneficiaries in Korogocho Slums, Nairobi
his study assessed the prevalence and factors associated with undernutrition among children in Korogocho, Nairobi, comparing beneficiaries of the Kenya Cash Transfer Program to non-beneficiaries.
