A retrospective analysis of the 2019 Rift Valley Fever (RVF) outbreak in Sudan’s Red Sea State highlights the effective application of the One Health approach in outbreak containment. Between September 2019 and January 2020, 576 human cases and two deaths were reported, with the majority concentrated in the Red Sea and River Nile States. The outbreak was triggered by factors such as flooding, uncontrolled animal movement, and unsafe animal handling and burial practices. The One Health strategy facilitated coordinated efforts among health, veterinary, and environmental sectors at both national and subnational levels. This multi-sectoral response led to the successful containment of the outbreak by early 2020. Despite its success, the response faced challenges including structural gaps, limited capacity, and financial constraints. The experience has since informed improved preparedness and response strategies for zoonotic diseases in Sudan.
