Spatiotemporal hotspots of neonatal and child mortality in Nyeri County, Kenya, 2018–2025

A retrospective spatio-temporal analysis of under-five mortality in Nyeri County (2018–2025) found that deaths were concentrated in a few persistent hotspot wards, particularly among neonates. Significant mortality clusters were identified across all age groups, with hotspot wards consistently recording higher mortality rates than non-hotspot areas. Although under-five mortality declined after peaking in 2021, the findings highlight the need for targeted surveillance, mortality audits, and child health interventions in high-burden wards.
