Dr Florence Temu
Dr Florence Temu is the Country Director for Amref Health Africa in Tanzania. Before assuming this role, Dr. Florence had worked for Amref Health Africa in different capacities in both Ethiopia and Tanzania respectively- as Project Manager, Head of Programmes, Deputy Country Director in Tanzania and as Country Director for Ethiopia and now Tanzania.
With Amref, Florence has spearheaded a number of initiatives that include development of country strategies, technical reviews and development programme specific strategies, technical advisor on Non Communicable Diseases programming, leading in the programme development and designing for a range of health interventions in the areas of Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health; Maternal and New-born and Child Health; HIV and AIDS, Water, Hygiene and Sanitation. As a Country Director, Florence provides oversight for country programme, leads the strategic and technical direction for the organization in the country; leads in identifying health intervention priorities, managing donor relations and driving strategies for fundraising and resource mobilization for the country programme.
Before joining the organization she was the Head of Cancer Prevention Services Division at Ocean Road Cancer Institute in Tanzania; and also general medical practitioner and researcher under maternal and HIV research projects at Muhimbili National Hospital. Dr Temu holds a Degree in Medicine, Masters in Public Health, Diploma in Palliative Care, as well as a University certificate in Geriatric Health Care Management. Florence has also served as Vice Chairperson for Medical Women Association of Tanzania, and is a member of Institute of Directors of Tanzania. She has undergone several leadership courses including PEAK Fellowship by Population Fellows Programs of the University of Michigan, USA; and Women Leaders for the World leadership programme and is a member of Global Women Leadership Network, a member of the Board of Directors for White Ribbon Alliance Tanzania, and Guaranty Trust Bank in Tanzania.
