Mr. Stephen Mwanje

Mr. Stephen Mwanje is a distinguished finance and corporate leader with over three decades of experience in financial management, strategic leadership, and institutional governance. He currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer at National Social Security Fund Uganda (NSSF Uganda), where he plays a central role in driving financial sustainability, investment growth, and organisational transformation.

Since joining NSSF in 2010 and rising to the position of CFO in 2017, Mr. Mwanje has been instrumental in strengthening financial systems, enhancing operational efficiency, and positioning the Fund as a key contributor to Uganda’s economic development and financial inclusion agenda. His leadership is widely recognised for advancing a modern, value-driven finance function aligned with long-term institutional growth.

Mr. Mwanje holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Makerere University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), equipping him with strong foundations in finance, strategic management, and leadership. He is also a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) from Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, reflecting advanced expertise in accounting, finance, and corporate governance. In addition, he has undertaken executive leadership training from globally recognised institutions, further strengthening his capabilities in investment strategy and organisational leadership.

As a member of  the Advisory Council of Amref Health Africa in Uganda, he contributes strategic oversight and guidance, particularly in areas of financial stewardship, governance, and sustainable financing for health programmes.

His appointment strengthens Amref’s commitment to robust governance and strategic partnerships, supporting the organisation’s mission to deliver lasting health change in Africa.
