Factors associated with HIV seropositivity among HIV-exposed infants enrolled in the prevention of mother-to-child transmission program in Mara Region, Tanzania: A mixed-methods study.
Among HIV-exposed infants enrolled in PMTCT in Tanzania’s Mara Region, 8.3% were HIV-positive, with detectable maternal viral load, mixed feeding, and poor follow-up significantly increasing transmission risk. Strengthening maternal viral suppression, exclusive breastfeeding, and retention in PMTCT care is critical to reducing mother-to-child HIV transmission.
