Gender dynamics affecting women’s uptake of maternal health service in agrarian and pastoral settings in Ethiopia: a community-based cross-sectional study
Maternal health service use in Ethiopia remains low, particularly in pastoralist areas, and is strongly influenced by gender and structural barriers, including limited women’s autonomy, inequitable gender norms, financial constraints, distance to facilities, and inadequate culturally appropriate care. Strengthening women’s decision-making power, male engagement, social support, and accessible, culturally responsive maternal health services could improve uptake.
