Multisystemic Resilience and Psychosocial Wellbeing among Older Refugees: A Systematic Review with Implications for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)

Older refugees face poorer mental and emotional health outcomes than younger counterparts, yet little is known about how to strengthen their psychosocial resilience in postmigration settings. This systematic review analyzed 23 studies published between 1991 and 2022 using a multisystemic resilience lens, revealing that protective factors vary widely depending on migration context, sociocultural background, and available resources. The findings underscore the need for interdisciplinary, multilevel research and culturally grounded mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) interventions tailored to older refugees.
