Assessing the impact of the journey plus curriculum on sexual and reproductive health and rights and behavioral change among Ugandan youth
The Journeys Plus curriculum, introduced by the Ugandan government and implemented by AMREF Uganda across nine districts, has demonstrated significant impact in empowering youth aged 9–14. Through a phenomenological study involving 360 young people and 80 adults, findings revealed that the curriculum effectively promoted positive behavior change, improved knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and rights, built vocational skills, strengthened resistance to gender-based violence, and fostered supportive peer relationships. Persistently high TB prevalence in Nairobi County neighbourhoods, 2015-2022
A 2022 re-survey of nine Nairobi County neighborhoods revealed a persistently high prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB), with a weighted estimate of 806 per 100,000 people—showing no significant decline since 2015. Among 6,369 participants, 1,582 submitted sputum samples, and 42 tested positive for TB. A retrospective analysis of the 2019 Rift Valley Fever (RVF) outbreak in Sudan’s Red Sea State highlights the effective application of the One Health approach in outbreak containment. Between September 2019 and January 2020, 576 human cases and two deaths were reported, with the majority concentrated in the Red Sea and River Nile States.
