Professor Monica B. Chibita

Professor Monica B. Chibita is an esteemed academic and a prominent figure in the field of communication studies. With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, she currently serves as the Dean, School of Journalism, Media and Communication at Uganda Christian University (UCU) and has been instrumental in shaping journalism and communication education in Uganda.
Monica holds a Doctorate of Literature and Philosophy (Communication) from the University of South Africa, where her research focused on indigenous language programming and citizen participation in Uganda’s broadcasting. She also earned her M.A. in Journalism from the University of Iowa as a Fulbright Fellow and a B.A. in Education from Makerere University.
Beginning her career at Makerere University in 1994, Monica quickly rose through the ranks, holding key positions such as Ag. Head of the Department of Mass Communication and Associate Professor. In 2012, she transitioned to UCU, where she has since served as the Dean of the School of Journalism, Media, and Communication. Her leadership has been pivotal in building capacity, enhancing academic standards and fostering a culture of research and innovation.
A prolific researcher, Professor Chibita has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, focusing the broad theme of media, democracy and development. She has also participated in numerous training programs, equipping herself with skills in governance, research management, pedagogics, and E-learning.
Monica is passionate about using communication as a tool for social change and is committed to empowering the next generation of journalists and media professionals in the region.
