Dr Helina Worku

Director of Primary Health Care and Strategic Partnership

Dr Helina Worku is a public health specialist with extensive experience in health system strengthening, health policy, primary health care, programme design and management, strategic planning and partnerships. She has contributed to Ethiopia’s national health programme through the development of key health sector strategies, including the National Health Strategic Plans, the Health Care Financing Strategy, the Human Resources for Health Strategic Plan, the Primary Health Care Strategic Framework and the Ethiopian Health Policy.

Dr Helina has played a pivotal role in fostering collaboration among development partners, serving as co-chair of the National Health Donors Group, where she supported coordination among more than 25 health donors in the country.

Prior to joining Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia, she served as Deputy Director of the Health Office at USAID/Ethiopia, overseeing a health portfolio valued at USD 180 million annually and contributing to the design and implementation of more than a dozen large-scale, multi-year health projects.

At Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia, Dr Helina leads efforts to advance primary health care initiatives, strengthen strategic partnerships and support the organisation in achieving its mission and vision.
