Districts in Gamo highlands are among the remotest areas in South Ethiopia, with lack of basic infrastructures such as road, electricity, drinking water as well as standard schools with basic facilities.
Recognizing this, Amref Health Africa implements ‘Community Empowerment for Children’s Wellbeing’ project to address the gaps and barriers seen in children’s education, and thereby contribute to community’s development.
Implemented in eight schools, the project works towards
- Empowering vulnerable students to take informed decision that affect their health and school performance using buddy system.
- Improving access to quality basic services to vulnerable children and woman’s through strengthening multisector collaboration.
Primary Outcomes
- Increase awareness of students and school communities on sexual reproductive health, nutrition and WASH
- Improve school performance of vulnerable students through enhancing learning and creating conducive learning environment
- Build capacity of school community to provide quality education, health education and child protection
- Strengthen multisectoral collaboration to address the needs of vulnerable children
