Dr. Asrat Mengiste received his Medical Degree from the Medical Institute I.P. Pavlov in Bulgaria, and specialised in general surgery at the faculty of medicine at Addis Ababa University. He received numerous specialised reconstructive surgery courses from institutions in UK, India, Norway and South Africa. In 2010, he obtained a master degree in Public Health. Dr. Asrat had worked for Amref Health Africa’s Reconstructive Surgery Outreach Project and Clinical Outreach Program from 2003 to 2016. This outreach program operated in nine African countries – Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Somaliland, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi and Rwanda. From 2016-2018, he served as the Executive Director for the National Podoconiosis Action Network, Ethiopia, and worked in the field of Prevention and Morbidity Management of Elephantiasis. From July 2018 on, he has been working for CDT-Africa at the Collage of Health Sciences, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia as a Technical Advisor in prevention of disabilities and morbidity management of people affected by Neglected Tropical diseases.
