Amref appreciates the benefits and features of improved sanitation systems on preventing the spread of excreta borne diseases, yet less than 10% of latrines in Ethiopia are considered improved. The construction of improved systems requires advanced technical skills which many communities and households do not have, and the means to cover the cost of such infrastructure and lack the awareness to prioritize sanitation over other competing family needs. To address this, we facilitate household demands, unlock financial barriers, and train and engage youth on sanitation entrepreneurship.
